Types of Student Permissions

Stamp 2 - Full-Time Studies

For students enrolled in full-time courses at recognized Irish institutions. Allows limited work rights.

Work: Up to 20 hours/week during term, 40 hours during holidays

Stamp 2A - Language Students

For language and non-degree courses. Does not permit employment.

No work rights

Third Level Graduate Scheme

For graduates of Irish universities. Allows job seeking and work after graduation.

Valid for 1-2 years depending on degree level

Exchange Programs

For students on approved exchange programs with Irish institutions.

General Requirements for Student Visas

  • Letter of acceptance from recognized Irish educational institution
  • Proof of payment of course fees
  • Evidence of sufficient funds (€7,000+ per year or €600/month)
  • Private medical insurance
  • Explanation of why you chose this course and institution
  • Academic records and qualifications
  • Evidence of English language proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, etc.)
  • Proof of accommodation arrangements in Ireland

Secure acceptance from recognized Irish educational institution

Gather all required documents and financial proof

Submit student visa application through AVATS

Register in Ireland

Register with immigration within 90 days of arrival

Financial Requirements

You must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover:

  • Course Fees: Full payment or proof of sponsorship
  • Living Expenses: €7,000 per year (or €600 per month for courses less than 1 year)
  • Accommodation: Evidence of secured accommodation or funds to cover it

Work Rights for Students

Students on Stamp 2 (degree programs) can work:

  • During Term: Up to 20 hours per week
  • During Holidays: Up to 40 hours per week (June-September, 15 Dec-15 Jan)

Note: Language students (Stamp 2A) and some other categories do not have work rights.
